Yorktown on the Park is located at 222 The Esplanade which is one block east of Sherbourne and one block south of Front Street East in Toronto. It is three (3) blocks east of the St. Lawrence Market, which is located at Front and Jarvis. It is bounded by Princess Street on the west side of the building and The Esplanade on the south side of the building. The east side of the building overlooks the City of Toronto St. Lawrence Community Recreation Centre and the Market Lane Public School Jr & Sr.
Yorktown on the Park is part of the St. Lawrence neighborhood, a reknown area of Toronto that was revitalized in the late 1970's through a series of architectural projects that brought housing back into the core of the downtown. These architectural projects included a mix of for-profit and not-for-profit housing including housing co-operatives. Central to this concept is Crombie Park, a strip of parkland upon which the housing overlooks. This parkland is a city block in depth and 6 blocks long. It provides a continuous belt of landscaped and recreational space in the heart of the housing.
The Globe and Mail recently published an article detailing the neighborhood, St. Lawrence blazes an urbane trail. It provides an interesting look at the formation and the architecture of the neighborhood.
Yorktown on the Park is part of a complex of developments where a City of Toronto St. Lawrence Community Recreation Centre and Market Lane Public School Jr & Sr are part of the same site sharing common facilities such as the parking garage and fire monitoring system. Even though they are part of the same complex, each area has separate entrances and are not inter-connected internally.
